Jonathan Lucas

Jonathan Lucas, J.D., is the Principal of the Summit Consulting Group, LLC.

Lucas has extensive experience in the political, policy development, fundraising and corporate sectors.  He received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in Political Science.  Lucas subsequently completed his Juris Doctorate at North Carolina Central School of Law.  While there, he obtained a specialized certification in Civil Rights and Constitutional Law.  Having worked in the political arena since his father ran for Mayor of Selma, Lucas has worked with, advised and fundraised for many political campaigns including Presidential candidates John Edwards, John Kerry and Barack Obama; Governors Bev Perdue and Mike Easley; Congressmen Brad Miller, David Price, G.K. Butterfield and Bob Etheridge; Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, Justice Cheri Beasley and State Auditor Beth Wood.  Additionally, Lucas has worked with advocacy groups such as Environment NC.  In 2008, he served then State Senator Kay Hagan in both the field and political arenas helping elect her to the U.S. Senate.  Lucas also served as the Senior Political Director at the North Carolina Democratic Party.  In this capacity, Lucas worked in conjunction with the Anthony Foxx campaign, to defeat John Lassiter in 2009.  In his work with Business Forward, a DC-based non-partisan business trade association, Lucas has convened over 50 events in NC and across the country with top CEOs and Executives of the country’s largest companies.  Currently, Lucas is consulting on congressional and state level campaigns, consulting for businesses and non-profits, continuing his policy and political work with Business Forward, and fundraising for organizations and campaigns.

In addition to working, Lucas spends most of his time saltwater fishing here in North Carolina and across the globe. Instilled in him by his father, fishing is his passion.  Lucas also plays music regularly — sometimes appearing at a hole in the wall bar in Chapel Hill singing for some patrons.  Finally, Lucas is deeply passionate about policy.  Reading and studying policy voraciously, his goal in life is to effectuate real policy solutions here in North Carolina, as well as nationally.
